Campus bookstore moves to U-district

Textbooks will no longer be sold by the SCC bookstore, starting next quarter. Students will instead have to look to the University Bookstore, online outlets, or other venues, for all their textbooks, including those that are custom made for SCC instructors.
The SCC bookstore has not yet officially announced whether it will keep the “Bookstore” part of its name.

Library removes laptop rental

According to library officials, laptops are no longer available for students to rent at the circulation desk of the library due to maintenance costs
While laptops were available to students to rent for 24 hours at a time in the library last year, Chris Matz, the library director at SCC said that the work required to service these laptops was too expensive to maintain.

The rising cost of textbooks

Forget about getting a pair of Air Jordans to show off at school, because new textbooks are now the latest luxury.
The cost of textbooks has risen 1,041 percent from January 1977 to June 2015, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A survey also found the average student could spend as much as $1,200 each year just on textbooks and supplies alone.

Sexual Security Increase

I find myself… in need of a condom.
So I mosey up to the third floor of the PUB building, into to the Women’s Center with its warm, bright lights and semi-friendly faces to greet me as I breeze in the door.
I see one of the visitors in his waiting chair glance over at me as I pass the first secretary, who sits immediately to the right of the entrance, and head for the glorious little condom basket at the back of the room. Next to the box sits another secretary, peering over his computer, readying himself to assist me.
